PDP Crisis Deepens as Makinde Bloc Revolts Over NEC, INEC Verdict Sparks Internal Rifts

The internal crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) escalated on Wednesday as tensions flared between Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike over the party’s leadership structure and the timing of its crucial National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.

At the heart of the latest dispute is the reinstatement of Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s National Secretary, following a verdict by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recognizing him in that capacity.

The development has further polarized the party, reigniting power struggles between rival factions ahead of its 100th NEC meeting.

Governor Makinde and his allies are said to be resisting the move, citing procedural violations and questioning the legality of the INEC endorsement.

On the opposing side, the Wike camp has thrown its weight behind Anyanwu’s reinstatement, viewing it as a legitimate step to stabilize the party’s leadership.

Sources within the party say the feud has created fresh tension within the NEC, with both blocs pushing competing agendas and threatening the fragile unity of the party.

The controversy is unfolding amid broader concerns over the PDP’s direction and cohesion ahead of future electoral cycles, with observers warning that unresolved internal divisions could further weaken the party’s standing as the main opposition force in Nigeria.

As the date for the NEC meeting draws closer, the PDP appears locked in a fresh battle for control — with the outcome likely to shape its future trajectory.
