Papa SA Wins Nine-Goal Thriller to Claim Spires 5-Aside Epe Title, Earns N500k Prize

The grand finale of the Spires 5-Aside Naija Street Soccer Divisional Tournament in Epe delivered an unforgettable football spectacle, as fans witnessed a thrilling nine-goal contest between eventual champions Papa SA and runners-up Net Breakers at the STS Pitch in Bogije, along the Lekki-Epe Expressway on Saturday.
The pulsating final saw both sides adopt an aggressive attacking style. Net Breakers’ trio of Kehinde Usman, Gbenro, and Elijah Adesanya—who scored a brace—impressed with their performances. However, Papa SA emerged victorious thanks to braces from Anifowoshe and Al Ameen, before a stunning goal by Toheeb sealed the win and the N500,000 championship prize.
Net Breakers, who pushed hard until the final whistle, were rewarded with a N300,000 cash prize for their second-place finish.
In the third-place match, Olaodus FC edged out Peckins FC 2-1 via a penalty shootout, earning a consolation prize of N100,000. The coach Oluwaseyi Agbaje-led side showed resilience in securing their spot on the podium.
Elijah Adesanya of Net Breakers FC was named top scorer of the tournament with seven goals, earning a N50,000 reward. Across the competition, a total of 54 goals were scored in just eight matches, underscoring the attacking quality on display.
Papa SA, Net Breakers, and Olaodus FC—all finishing in the top three—will go on to represent the Epe Division at the Lagos State Championship later this year.
Dr. Bankole Allibay, the initiator of the Spires 5-Aside Naija Street Soccer Tournament, reaffirmed the organizers’ commitment to professionalism and the welfare of participating teams.
“We pride ourselves as the most organized 5-Aside football tourney in the country as at today, and we hope to continue to build on the successes recorded ahead of the state championship,” Dr. Allibay stated.
The 2025 edition of the Spires 5-Aside Naija Street Soccer Tournament will feature 16 teams drawn from five divisions across Lagos State. The eventual state champions will receive a grand prize of N10 million, among other incentives.
