Oyo Governor, Makinde, Vows Action After Bandit Attack Kills Five Forest Guards

Following a deadly cross-border bandit attack that claimed five forest guards’ lives, Governor Seyi Makinde has assured Oyo State residents that security agencies are intensifying efforts to apprehend the perpetrators.

The Governor made the statement in a post on his verified Facebook page after the attack on the National Park Office at Oloka Village in Orire Local Government Area. He described the incident as a devastating loss, noting that the officers were killed while performing their lawful duties in service to the nation.

“Late yesterday night, there was a criminal attack by bandits at the National Park Office, Oloka Village, which resulted in the death of five National Park Service forest guards. This is a devastating loss of personnel carrying out their lawful duties”, Makinde said, while praying for the repose of their souls.

Preliminary investigations suggest the attack was cross-border in nature, carried out by bandits operating from outside the state.

The Governor said security agencies are collaborating closely and intensifying intelligence-led operations to track down those responsible. He also appealed to residents, especially those in Orire and other border communities, to remain calm and provide useful information to aid security efforts.

“I appeal to residents of Oyo State, particularly those in Orire LGA and other LGAs along our borders, to remain calm. Security agencies have restored normalcy and deployed additional personnel to the area”, Makinde stated.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property, stressing that all necessary measures will be taken to prevent future attacks.
