Oyo Government Strengthens Security with New Police Command, Infrastructure Projects

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to enhancing the security architecture of the state, ensuring the safety of lives and property.

The governor, represented by his Deputy, Bayo Lawal, made the remarks during the commissioning of the reconstructed Moniya Area Command Headquarters of the Nigeria Police Force, a project undertaken by Akinyele Local Government.

In addition, Governor Makinde inaugurated two motorised boreholes at the Rehabilitation Centre for the Physically Challenged in Isabiyi Ward 6 and Akuro Community, Olorisaoko, Ward 11. The initiatives underscore the administration’s dedication to community development alongside security enhancement.

Makinde emphasized that the new Moniya Police Command forms part of a broader strategy to proactively address security challenges in the state. “Moniya and Akinyele Local Government are rapidly transforming into hubs of economic and urban activity due to ongoing infrastructure projects, including the Circular Road, Ilutuntun Business District, and Dry Port. These developments attract more residents and investors, and it is our duty to ensure their safety,” he said.

Highlighting the strategic importance of the new command, the governor noted that it comes with modern facilities that will enable police officers to operate effectively. He commended the local government for complementing the project with borehole installations.

Makinde further urged residents to be vigilant and report suspicious activities, stressing that the state government continues to provide extensive support to security agencies, including vehicles and other essential resources. “While states cannot provide arms and ammunition, we ensure that all other needs of the Nigeria Police Force are met. Oyo State remains the safest in the South-West, a status we are proud of,” he said.

Akinyele Local Government Chairman, Akinwole Akinleye, stated that the Moniya Area Command is designed to strengthen security, safeguard borders, and protect residents amid rising insecurity.

He added that the new facilities will support police operations, particularly in urbanising areas like the Ilu-Tuntun Business District and the ongoing Circular Road project.

Representing the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, Deputy Commissioner Isiaka Salahudeen urged residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing actionable information, emphasizing that ensuring safety is a shared responsibility.

In their remarks, Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology Segun Olayiwola, Chairman of Local Government Chairmen Sikiru Sanda, and elder statesman Julius Akinsola commended Governor Makinde’s initiatives.

They also praised Akinyele Local Government for supporting the state’s security agenda and encouraged residents and the police to maintain the facilities to sustain the fight against insecurity.
