The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Basiru, has firmly dismissed reports claiming he is in talks with former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola for a political alliance ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
In a sharp rebuttal issued by his campaign team, Basiru labeled the speculation as “false, baseless, and politically motivated.” The statement emphasized that “no such discussions have taken place” and called the idea of an alliance “unimaginable,” particularly since Aregbesola is no longer an APC member.
Basiru, a leading governorship aspirant for the Osun APC ticket, is positioning himself as a unifying force within the party, distancing himself from factional politics.
The denial comes amid heightened political maneuvering in the state, where alliances and defections could reshape the race ahead of the August 2026 election. While some outlets have framed this as a simple denial, the deeper story lies in Osun’s fractured political landscape.
Aregbesola, once a dominant APC figure, now leads the splinter group Omoluabi Progressives, making any rumored reconciliation a significant development—if true.
