Elected chairmen and councillors from the October 15, 2022, local government election in Osun State have officially resumed work at 14 local government secretariats across the state as of 10 a.m. on Wednesday.
Reports confirmed that the local government officials, alongside numerous APC members, have made their way back to the secretariats in Ila, Ede South, Ife Central, Ife East, Ife North, Ilesa East, Ilesa West, Boripe, Oriade, and Obokun local government areas. Additional locations where the local officials resumed include Ejigbo, Iwo, Ayedire, and Boripe secretariats.
Jamiu Olawumi, a former Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, confirmed the resumption, noting that by 10 a.m., activities had fully resumed across these 14 local government areas. He also added that there have been no reports of violence so far, which is a positive development.
Olawumi commended the security measures in place for the resumption, stating that personnel from the police tactical team, armed civil defense squads, and DSS were present to ensure the safety of the local government officials.
However, Olawumi also expressed concerns about the continued presence of thugs in the town. He urged the state government to take swift action in removing these individuals, highlighting that they posed a potential threat to peace and order. Olawumi further emphasized that Governor Ademola Adeleke should consider engaging with the President, the Chief of Staff, or the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to address security issues and foster a stable environment for development.
In his closing remarks, Olawumi reiterated that the chairmen and councillors were committed to working with the state governor to drive the development agenda for Osun State, despite their different roles in the governance structure.
