The All Progressives Congress (APC) Screening Committee has disqualified former APC National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore, along with six other aspirants, from participating in the Osun State governorship primary scheduled for December 13, citing significant gaps and irregularities in their nomination documents.
According to the committee’s report, obtained by our correspondent on Friday, the disqualified aspirants failed to meet key constitutional requirements of the party. The committee also appealed to party stakeholders to pursue reconciliation, warning that unresolved disputes could undermine the credibility of the governorship selection process.
This development comes ahead of the Osun governorship election set for August 8, 2026, as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The Screening Committee—chaired by Chief Obinna Uzoh, Esq.—concluded its work on December 4, 2025, and formally submitted its report to the APC National Working Committee in Abuja on Friday.
The report stated that Omisore, alongside Babatunde Haketer Oralusi, Oyedotun Babayemi, Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, Benedict Alabi, Adegoke Rasheed Okiki, and Senator Babajide Omoworare, failed to present proof of sponsorship from at least five fully registered and financially up-to-date APC members in each of Osun’s Local Government Areas.
This requirement is mandated by Articles 9.3(i) and 31.2(ii) of the APC Constitution and Paragraph 6(c) of the party’s guidelines.
Only two aspirants—Mulikat Abiola Jimoh and Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji—successfully scaled the screening hurdle and were cleared to contest in the primary.
The report stated in part: “In carrying out its assignment, the Committee adopted the following screening process…”
