The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has declared its intention to either field or support a governorship candidate with a track record of integrity in the 2026 Osun State election, with the goal of removing incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke from office.
The Osun State Chairman of the party, Dr. Tosin Odeyemi, made the disclosure in a statement issued on Tuesday, stating that preparations are already underway for the upcoming governorship race.
Odeyemi noted that the current political climate in Osun calls for a strategic coalition among opposition parties, stressing that no single party or individual can win the election without joint efforts.
“The 2026 gubernatorial election in the state is very crucial as the state has never had it so bad since its creation,” Odeyemi said. “Propaganda has taken over governance in Osun State, and no elder statesman seems bold enough to challenge the current administration.”
He argued that the electorate is gradually shifting its focus from political loyalty to credible personalities, suggesting that a candidate with integrity could attract cross-party support, including from Governor Adeleke’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“Findings have revealed that personality can win this election,” Odeyemi added. “There are individuals whose integrity commands votes even from other parties. If such a candidate clinches the ticket, I can boldly say that 40 percent of votes will come from the PDP.”
According to him, the NNPP is willing to support any credible candidate—whether from within or outside its ranks—who shares a commitment to restoring good governance in the state.
“Our common goal is to rescue Osun. Many people are now realizing that politics goes beyond propaganda. They are abandoning their narrow party interests for a broader vision of good leadership.”
Odeyemi’s remarks come amid growing political tensions and realignments in Osun State as opposition parties begin to strategize ahead of the next gubernatorial cycle.
