Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has ordered a full investigation into a confrontation between Senator Adams Oshiomhole and Air Peace staff at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed Airport, an incident that has sparked public debate and criticism on social media.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Keyamo said he had been in direct contact with both parties since the incident occurred on Wednesday morning. He emphasized the need for restraint, fairness, and a thorough fact-finding process before any conclusions are drawn.
“I have directed aviation agencies to exercise restraint and ensure that all sides are heard, in line with the time-honoured principle of natural justice,” Keyamo said.
The clash reportedly began after Senator Oshiomhole, who represents Edo North in the Senate, missed Air Peace flight P47120. The airline claims the senator arrived at the terminal after boarding had closed.
According to Air Peace, Oshiomhole reacted angrily, allegedly obstructing the terminal entrance and preventing other passengers from entering—actions the airline described as “unruly” and “unacceptable.”
The airline further alleged that operational disruptions occurred as a result, forcing them to implement contingency measures to reroute passengers through an alternate terminal.
While both sides have issued conflicting accounts, Keyamo appealed for calm and urged all parties to suspend public accusations while the matter is under review. He has instructed the relevant aviation authorities to collect all available evidence and submit a detailed report to his office.
“We must treat such matters with the seriousness they deserve,” the minister said, “and use them as learning points for future conduct within the aviation space.”
The minister’s intervention highlights broader concerns over the treatment of aviation personnel and the behavior of high-profile individuals at public facilities. It also reinforces the government’s commitment to improving accountability and professionalism within Nigeria’s aviation sector.
