Presidential media aide Bayo Onanuga has disagreed with remarks by African Development Bank President Akinwumi Adesina, who recently said Nigerians are economically worse off now than in 1960.
Onanuga argued that the statement overlooks milestones in infrastructure, education, and the economy since independence.
He emphasized that although Nigeria faces serious economic challenges, including inflation and unemployment, dismissing the country’s developmental progress is unfair.
He also pointed out efforts by successive governments to improve human capital development and public sector reforms.
Onanuga called for a balanced narrative that encourages national growth rather than one that, in his words, fuels despair.
The presidency has consistently emphasized its Renewed Hope Agenda as a long-term solution to the country’s socio-economic woes.
