Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to accelerating development across the state following the affirmation of his electoral victory by the election petitions tribunal in Abuja.
Speaking during a victory dinner held at the New Festival Hall of the Government House in Benin City, Governor Okpebholo described the tribunal’s judgment as a divine endorsement of the people’s will expressed in the September 21, 2024, governorship election.
“The tribunal’s ruling confirmed what we already knew – that the people of Edo State gave us their mandate. With this legal hurdle behind us, we’re even more determined to deliver on our promises and transform the state through practical governance,” the governor stated.
Okpebholo expressed deep appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for his unwavering loyalty to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and his refusal to succumb to pressure during the election period. He also thanked the APC leadership, the State Working Committee (SWC), and the electorate for their steadfast support.
“My first duty is to serve the people of Edo and to secure our land,” he said. “We have started on that path, and we will intensify efforts across all sectors — infrastructure, security, education, and community support.”
He added, “I want to assure you all that I will not disappoint the trust you have placed in me. Edo is moving forward, and this victory is for all our people.”
Also speaking at the event, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, who represents Edo North in the National Assembly, said the tribunal ruling was not just a political victory but a divine confirmation of the people’s decision.
“When people questioned the outcome of the election, God answered through the court and reaffirmed the victory of our party. It’s not just about winning; it’s about using that win to bring progress to Edo State,” Oshiomhole remarked.
He encouraged Governor Okpebholo to continue focusing on rebuilding roads, revamping schools, and supporting vulnerable communities. “You’ve started strong — keep going. The people are counting on you,” he said.
APC State Chairman, Jaret Tenebe, hailed the victory dinner as a celebration of unity and perseverance. “This is the first time we’re coming together since the tribunal ruling, and it’s a moment of joy. The governor has already started fulfilling his promises, and we are confident he’ll do even more,” he said.
Former Deputy Governor of the state, Dr. Pius Odubu, also praised Okpebholo for justifying the confidence of the people through his developmental projects. “From infrastructure to healthcare and youth empowerment, the results are already visible,” he noted.
Leaders from the three senatorial districts of the state – South, North, and Central – pledged their continued support. Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu urged inclusivity in governance, while General Cecil Esekhaigbe (rtd.) from Edo Central said, “The Esan Agenda has now become the Edo Agenda. Our people are seeing the dividends of democracy.”
Former deputy governors, lawmakers, commissioners, and top APC members including Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa, Secretary to the State Government Musa Ikhilor, and Chief of Staff Gani Audu, were all present at the dinner to celebrate what many described as a “fresh chapter” in Edo State’s political history.
Governor Okpebholo concluded by reaffirming that his government would remain people-focused. “This victory belongs to every Edo citizen. We will continue to work tirelessly to improve lives and restore hope across our state,” he said.
