Ojokoro APC Aspirants Reject Alleged Imposition Ahead of Lagos LG Polls

Twelve aspirants urge party leaders to uphold internal democracy and resist consensus claims they call deceptive.

With local government elections drawing near in Lagos State, a group of All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmanship aspirants in Ojokoro Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has rejected what they described as attempts to impose a candidate through a false consensus narrative.

In a joint statement on behalf of 12 aspirants, Segun Sekoni and Mustapha Rasheed called on the APC leadership in Lagos to uphold democratic values and ensure a transparent primary process. They argued that genuine leadership can only emerge when candidate selection reflects the will of the people, not backroom deals.

The aspirants alleged that internal party actors are pushing a misleading narrative claiming consensus has been reached in favor of one aspirant. They described the move as deceptive, stressing that it undermines both the credibility of the APC and the integrity of the electoral process.

The group clarified that a circulating list, which some claim indicates consensus, was merely an attendance record from a meeting with the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly. They said no vote or agreement took place during that gathering.

They further cautioned against manipulating internal processes, stating that Ojokoro is “not for sale” and that no individual or clique should dictate leadership without the involvement of the broader party base.

“The party must allow the people to decide,” they emphasized, warning that the imposition of candidates could spark disillusionment among loyal party members and the electorate.
