The Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun State has rejected the decision of the party’s National Caretaker Working Committee dissolving its state executive, insisting that the existing leadership structure remains legally constituted and fully operational.
Addressing journalists in Abeokuta on Saturday, the state chairman, Abayomi Tella, said the current executive committee was duly elected on September 24, 2024, and remains within its constitutionally recognised tenure.
Tella maintained that no provision of the party’s constitution had been violated to justify the dissolution announced by the national leadership.
It would be recalled that the PDP’s National Caretaker Working Committee on Friday declared the immediate dissolution of the Ogun State Executive Committee, a move that has now drawn sharp resistance from the state chapter.
Responding to the directive, the Ogun PDP leadership argued that the state chapter has remained peaceful, united, and stable despite heightened political activities across the country.
According to Tella, there has been no crisis or constitutional breach within the state structure that could warrant such an action, stressing that the executive remains committed to sustaining internal harmony and strengthening party operations.
He further reassured party members and supporters that the PDP remains strong and politically relevant in Ogun State, with preparations already underway for active participation in future electoral contests.
While acknowledging the efforts of the national leadership in reconciling aggrieved members across the federation, the state chapter urged party faithful to remain calm, united, and law-abiding.
The chairman also advised members not to be distracted by rumours or political speculation, assuring them that the party’s structure in Ogun State remains stable and functional.
