The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has announced plans to investigate the circumstances surrounding the invasion of the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) headquarters. On Thursday, personnel from the Air Force stormed the company’s offices in response to the disconnection of electricity supply to the Sam Ethnan Air Force Base in Ikeja, Lagos.
Kingsley Okotie, the spokesperson for IKEDC, reported that the NAF personnel vandalized the company’s office, assaulted employees, and stole several assets.
During a press briefing on Thursday, Adeniran Ademuwagun, the Air Officer Commanding (AOC) Logistics Command, confirmed that an investigation would be conducted, and appropriate sanctions would be applied to the officers involved. He emphasized that the Nigerian Air Force takes the safety of citizens seriously and assured that Ikeja Electric should continue its operations without fear of interference.
Ademuwagun also apologized to Ikeja Electric’s management, calling the invasion unfortunate, and reaffirmed the Air Force’s commitment to maintaining discipline and ensuring that officers act with professionalism.
Kola Adesina, chairman of Ikeja Electric, also addressed the press, revealing that at least 10 staff members were injured, and several company assets were either vandalized or stolen during the invasion.g
