Oando Confirms Sabotage Attacks on Key Pipelines in Bayelsa

Oil and gas company Oando Plc has reported three separate sabotage incidents on its pipelines in Nigeria’s oil-rich Bayelsa State over the past week.

In a statement released Friday, Oandowhich recently acquired Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC) from Italian energy giant Eni said the attacks targeted critical infrastructure. The affected sites include the 18-inch Tebidaba-Brass crude pipeline in the Brass local government area and the 24-inch Ogboinbiri/Obiobi gas pipeline in the Southern Ijaw district.

The company has launched an emergency response and deployed specialized repair teams to contain the damage and address the leaks, a spokesperson confirmed.

Oando added that it is collaborating with authorities on a joint investigative visit to assess the full extent of the sabotage and identify those responsible. Full-scale repair efforts will begin immediately after the inspection, the company said, with the aim of restoring operations as swiftly as possible.

Pipeline sabotage and oil theft have long plagued Nigeria’s energy sector, prompting several international oil companies including Shell, ExxonMobil, Total, and Eni to divest from onshore and shallow-water assets in favor of offshore deepwater projects where such risks are significantly lower.
