Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has appointed former Minister of Power, Barth Nnaji, as chairman of a 15-member Economic Committee tasked with driving the state’s industrialisation agenda.
Inaugurating the committee in Abakaliki, Nwifuru urged members to tackle erratic power supply, harness solid mineral resources, and provide strategic guidance for reviving moribund industries.
“We want to industrialise Ebonyi and prove that we have the capacity to do business,” the governor said. “Our manifesto, the People’s Charter of Needs, requires that we bring in experts to help chart the way forward.”
He specifically directed the committee to advise on reviving the Nigeria Cement Company (NIGERCEM), establishing a second cement plant, and setting up a salt production facility.
Responding, Nnaji praised the governor’s “vision, boldness, and courage” in prioritising economic growth through industrial development.
Other members of the committee include Chief Ben Oka, Chief Mrs. Augustina Nwaoma Ekuma, Dr. Joe Abah, Gen. Abel Obi Umahi, Chief Chibuike Orogwu, Chief Dominic Nwibo, Chief Elechi Innocent Ojiugwo, Anayo Omoke, Dr. Mark Abani, High Chief Ifeanyi Clement Okorie, Dr. Edward Nkwegu, and Mr. Mike Chukwu. Associate Prof. Ben Uruchi Odoh will serve as secretary.
