NPFL: Remo open 12-point gap after Plateau win

Remo Stars continued their impressive form at the top of the Nigeria Premier Football League table on Sunday, securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Plateau United in Ikenne. The win helped maintain their 12-point lead at the top of the table, with 54 points after 27 games.

Mid-season signing and former Sunshine Stars striker, Samson Olasupo, marked his return to the Nigerian top flight with the winning goal in the 74th minute. Despite dominating possession, the hosts struggled throughout the match and were reduced to 10 men late in the game after captain Junior Nduka was sent off for a second yellow card. Nduka had also missed a first-half penalty, and Sikiru Alimi saw a header ruled out for offside in the second half. However, Olasupo made sure the pressure paid off, drilling home the decisive goal.

The victory keeps Remo Stars firmly at the top, with Rivers United (second place) trailing by 12 points, and Rivers United set to face 3SC in Ibadan on Monday.

Elsewhere, in Lagos, Ikorodu City are proving to be a solid force in their debut top-flight season, securing a 2-0 win over Heartland at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena. Leonard Ngenge scored in the first half, and Ayomide Cole sealed the win in the second, further solidifying Ikorodu City’s position for survival in the league.

In Kano, Kano Pillars earned a 2-1 win over Rangers International, watched by Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle. After Bashir Usman’s 33rd-minute opener for Rangers, Rabiu Ali and Jerry Alex turned the game around for Kano Pillars, who have now won four of their last five matches, moving up to fourth with 41 points.

Finally, Enyimba recorded a rare away win this season, edging past Niger Tornadoes 1-0 in Lafia, thanks to a goal from Joseph Atule.

These results keep the Nigeria Premier Football League season competitive, with teams at the top and bottom of the table battling for crucial points as the season progresses.
