NPFL Fines Shooting Stars ₦5m, Bans Fans from Home Games Over Crowd Trouble

The disciplinary action stems from the aftermath of last weekend’s Matchday 32 encounter at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Adamasingba, where enraged supporters of the Oluyole Warriors allegedly held Ikorodu City players hostage and vandalized their team bus.

Shooting Stars have been fined 5 million by the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) and ordered to play their home matches behind closed doors following incidents of crowd violence during their recent fixture against Ikorodu City.

The disciplinary action stems from the aftermath of last weekend’s Matchday 32 encounter at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Adamasingba, where enraged supporters of the Oluyole Warriors allegedly held Ikorodu City players hostage and vandalized their team bus.

The league found Shooting Stars guilty on three counts: failure to provide adequate security, failure to control their supporters, and allowing objects to be thrown onto the pitch.

A statement from the NPFL disciplinary committee read:
“You are in breach of Rule C9 of the Framework and Rules of the Nigeria Premier Football League. On Sunday, April 6, 2025, during the Matchday 32 fixture between Shooting Stars and Ikorodu City, you failed to ensure proper conduct of your supporters, which resulted in the assault of the away team’s players and fans.”

As a consequence, the club’s supporters are barred from attending future home games at the Lekan Salami Stadium until further notice.

Shooting Stars have 48 hours to either accept the sanctions or file an appeal against the ruling.
