In the wake of violent attacks across Kwara, Katsina, and Benue states, the Northern Senators Forum has called on the Federal Government to urgently deploy more security personnel to protect vulnerable communities.
The forum’s Chairman, Sen. Abdulaziz Yar’Adua, made the appeal in a condolence message issued on Thursday, expressing sympathy to the victims and their families. He described the attacks as brutal and senseless, highlighting the urgent need for stronger security measures.
“We acknowledge the efforts of security agencies and urge citizens to cooperate by reporting suspicious activities. At the same time, the Federal Government must urgently increase the recruitment and deployment of security personnel to combat these threats”, Yar’Adua said.
The call comes amid growing alarm in the National Assembly over repeated attacks by bandits and extremist groups in rural areas. Recent incidents include the attack on Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area, Kwara State, where dozens of residents were killed, and a raid on Abande community in Mbaikyor Ward, Kwande LGA, Benue State, which also left several dead.
Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, confirmed that 75 people were killed in the Kaiama attack, describing the victims as “local Muslims massacred for refusing to surrender to extremists preaching a strange doctrine”.
The Northern Senators Forum stressed the importance of enhanced federal intervention, improved intelligence gathering, and sustained security presence to prevent further attacks and restore stability to affected communities.
