No Lives Lost as Fire Destroys 10 Shops in Ibadan Market Complex

At least 10 shops were destroyed by fire on Monday night at the Iya Maryam Adebara Complex in the Ogunpa Market area of Ibadan.

The Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Moroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident in a statement on Tuesday. The agency received a distress call from Baale Ogunpa, Alhaji Nurudeen Lawal, at 8:11 pm, reporting the blaze.

“Our officers acted swiftly to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby shops and properties. The Federal Fire Service joined forces with us to extinguish the flames,” Akinwande said.

Firefighters arriving at the scene found 10 shops already engulfed in fire. The chairman attributed the blaze to a generator being fueled by one of the shop occupants.

He added that no casualties were reported and commended personnel from Iyaganku Police Headquarters for their prompt assistance in securing the area during the emergency.
