Contrary to recent viral reports, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has confirmed that no directive has been issued to suspend its ban on sachet alcohol and 200ml PET bottled drinks.
In a statement, NAFDAC’s Director-General, Mojisola Adeyeye, described the reports as false, misleading, and not based on any official communication from the federal government.
Adeyeye emphasized that the agency has not received any instructions to halt or suspend its regulatory or enforcement activities regarding sachet alcohol. “NAFDAC operates strictly within its statutory mandate and implements only officially communicated government policies and directives”, she said.
She further reiterated the agency’s commitment to safeguarding public health, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and acting transparently in accordance with established laws. Any decisions affecting national regulatory actions will be communicated through authorised government channels.
NAFDAC urged the public, media, and industry stakeholders to ignore unverified claims and rely solely on information released through its official platforms. The agency warned that spreading false reports could cause unnecessary public concern, disrupt economic activity, and misrepresent government policy.
