Military leaders gathered in Maiduguri on Saturday as the Theatre Commander of Operation HADIN KAI, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, renewed the Armed Forces’ commitment to ending insurgency in Nigeria’s North-East.
The pledge was made during the combined West African Social Activity (WASA) for 2025, jointly hosted by Headquarters Theatre Command Operation HADIN KAI and Headquarters 7 Division of the Nigerian Army at the 212 Parade Ground, Maimalari Cantonment. The information was disclosed by the operation’s Media Information Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba.
Major General Abubakar described WASA as a long-standing Nigerian Army tradition that promotes unity, preserves military values, and marks the close of annual activities. He said the event also provided an opportunity to review operational achievements over the past year.
He noted that notable progress had been made in restoring peace across the North-East, particularly in Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe states, attributing the improved security situation to the commitment and sacrifices of troops operating under the Chief of Army Staff’s command philosophy.
The Theatre Commander thanked President Bola Tinubu, Chief of Defence Staff – General Olufemi Oluyede, and the Service Chiefs for their strategic guidance, improved logistics, and enhanced troop welfare, assuring that Operation HADIN KAI would intensify efforts to neutralize remaining terrorist elements in the region.
Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Honourable Bukar Tijjani, commended the military for its sustained security efforts and pledged continued support and collaboration to achieve lasting peace.
The governor also sympathized with the families of fallen soldiers and prayed for the speedy recovery of wounded personnel.
