Nigerian Government Declares Thursday Public Holiday in Celebration of Workers’ Day

In recognition of Nigeria’s hardworking workforce, the federal government has declared Thursday, May 1, a public holiday to commemorate this year’s Workers’ Day.

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the announcement in a statement released on Tuesday, expressing gratitude to Nigerian workers for their unwavering dedication, hard work, and sacrifices that contribute significantly to the nation’s progress both internally and on the global stage.

Tunji-Ojo took the opportunity to emphasize the critical role of peace in fostering industrialization and driving economic growth.

He urged Nigerian workers to continue embracing innovation and productivity as essential pillars of national development.

“There is inherent dignity in labor,” the Minister remarked. “The dedication and commitment of workers are crucial to building a stronger, more prosperous nation.”

Tunji-Ojo reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the security and well-being of every citizen and foreigner within Nigeria’s borders, highlighting the administration’s focus on a stable and secure environment for all.

While extending his best wishes to workers for a joyful celebration, the Minister called on Nigerians to maintain hope and confidence in the government’s commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu.

The Minister further urged workers to continue striving for excellence in their respective fields, emphasizing that such efforts would not only improve governance but also enable citizens to maximize the benefits of the nation’s resources and wealth.
