Nigerian Artist Completes 168-Hour Painting Marathon in Guinness World Record Bid

In an extraordinary feat of endurance and artistic expression, Nigerian visual artist Olivea Lawson has completed a 168-hour non-stop painting marathon, marking a bold attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the longest painting session by an individual.
The monumental paint-a-thon, which kicked off on July 21 and concluded at 1:50 AM on Monday, July 28, 2025, captivated audiences across Nigeria and beyond. From the heart of Bonny Island in Rivers State, the performance evolved into a celebration of resilience, creativity, and cultural pride.
Originally aiming for 150 hours, Olivea—born and raised in Bonny Island—surpassed her target, pushing through to an astonishing 168 hours across seven consecutive days.
Her determination drew waves of support from art enthusiasts, cultural figures, and local fans, many of whom gathered to cheer her on as she put the final brushstroke to canvas.
“This wasn’t just about breaking a record,” Olivea told Channels Television. “It was about showing that with creativity, consistency, and courage, African women can lead global conversations in art and innovation.”
Her works, produced in real time over the week-long event, reflected powerful themes of hope, identity, African heritage, and youth empowerment. Each piece became part of a visual narrative celebrating Nigeria’s rich cultural fabric and artistic potential.
Beyond the brushwork, the event ignited tourism interest, casting a spotlight on Bonny Island as an emerging creative hub and energizing national conversations around youth investment and cultural infrastructure.
Supporters called the record attempt “a movement of hope, art, and African excellence”, saying it transcends the canvas to inspire a generation.
Olivea’s marathon is currently under review by Guinness World Records, with official confirmation expected in the coming weeks.
