Nigerian Army Raises Alarm Over Fake Recruitment Ads, Urges Public Vigilance

The Nigerian Army has firmly discredited a viral recruitment notice making rounds online, labeling it as completely false and warning Nigerians against falling victim to fraud.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, clarified that the purported recruitment into the Direct Short Service Commission (DSSC) and Short Service Commission (SSC) is nothing more than a scam. She emphasized that no such exercise is currently underway and that the Army has not authorized any recruitment announcement for 2025.

“The Nigerian Army wishes to categorically state that it is not conducting any recruitment or commissioning exercise for DSSC or SSC at this time,” Lt.-Col. Anele stated. “The public is advised to disregard the fraudulent advert and remain cautious.”

She urged Nigerians to verify all information through official Nigerian Army channels and to avoid websites or social media pages not affiliated with the military.

Warning against the activities of cybercriminals, Anele added, “These deceptive notices are often crafted by fraudsters to exploit and extort unsuspecting individuals. We urge the public not to engage with these fake platforms and to report any suspicious activity immediately.”

The Army also reiterated its commitment to transparency and professionalism in its recruitment processes, assuring that any legitimate call for applications would be publicly announced through authorized platforms, including national dailies, official social media pages, and the Nigerian Army website.

The military concluded with a call to the public: “Stay informed, stay alert, and do not fall prey to impostors.”
