Nigeria has officially announced its five-archer national squad for the 2025 African Archery Continental Championships, scheduled for 19–23 November in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire in two venues at Palais des Sports De Treichville and Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium.
The two days of five days event will commence at Palais des Sports De Treichville while Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium will host the remaining days of the championships.
The delegation was unveiled in partnership with the Nigeria Archery Federation and Nigeria ‘s leading archery club. ARCH Archery Club marks the country’s third consecutive appearance at the continental tournament as Team Nigeria heads into Abidjan with renewed ambition and a bold pledge to deliver “a rain of medals” for the nation.
The squad well represented by ARCH Archery Club Abuja—showcase the rapid growth of competitive archery in Nigeria and the strengthening of national talent pipelines.
At the forefront of the delegation is Aliyu Abubakar Garga, who serves as Leader of the Delegation and Team Captain. A seasoned archer, respected trainer, and key architect of archery development across the country, Garga’s leadership is expected to guide the team with discipline, tactical clarity, and national pride.
The men’s category features Damilola Sholademi, Nigeria’s most decorated competitive archer, internationally ranked athlete, and a member of the historic team that won Nigeria’s first-ever African Championship medals. He is joined by Aliyu Abubakar and Seun Ogunlana, both central figures in redefining archery and Nigeria’s competitive resurgence.
A major highlight of the squad is the inclusion of Under-18 prodigy Alexander Harry-Erin, whose rise reflects Nigeria’s youth-focused development strategy. His selection ensures early exposure to elite competition and supports the country’s long-term plan to build a sustainable, high-performance archery ecosystem.
However, despite the team’s readiness and high morale, urgent support is needed to cover travel, logistics, and equipment requirements. Arch Club is calling on government institutions, corporate organizations, philanthropists, and sports-development partners to help ensure Nigeria’s full representation in Abidjan.
Archery continues to gather momentum nationwide as clubs expand, youth enrolment increases, and the sport gains recognition as a disciplined, precision-driven competitive field capable of enhancing Nigeria’s international sporting reputation.
