Nigeria’s Super Eagles secured a spot in the Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals with a commanding 2-0 win over Algeria on Saturday evening. The victory sets up a thrilling semi-final clash against hosts Morocco.
Eric Chelle’s men dominated the Desert Foxes for most of the first half, but failed to find the back of the net. The closest Nigeria came to opening the scoring was when Calvin Bassey’s effort was cleared off the line.
However, in the second half, Victor Osimhen headed in Bruno Onyemaechi’s cross, before setting up Akor Adams for the second goal. Adams’ shot was initially cleared, but Osimhen’s persistence paid off as he fed Adams, who took it round Algeria goalkeeper Luca Zidane before placing it into an empty net.
