NEMA, SOO Intensify Search and Rescue Efforts in Sokoto Boat Tragedy

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), through its Sokoto Operations Office (SOO), has launched full-scale rescue operations following a tragic boat mishap in Sokoto State on Sunday morning.

The Director General of NEMA, Zubaida Umar, said the agency swiftly activated its emergency response after receiving reports that a boat carrying over 50 passengers to Goronyo Market had capsized.

“As at the time of this report, 10 persons have been rescued while more than 40 others remain unaccounted for,” she stated.

NEMA’s Sokoto Operations Office, working in close collaboration with local authorities, community volunteers, and other first responders, has intensified search and rescue operations to locate the missing passengers.

The Agency reaffirmed its commitment to saving lives and supporting affected families, assuring the public that timely updates will be provided as rescue efforts continue.

“Our priority is the safety and recovery of all those affected by this unfortunate incident,” Mrs. Umar added.
