NDLEA arrests two suspected traffickers, seizes 763kg skunk cannabis in Edo

The Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency says it arrested two traffickers and seized 763kg of skunk cannabis in the state.

The state commander, Mitchell Ofoyeju, disclosed this in a released statement, noting that the operation that led to the arrest and seizure of the drugs was part of the pre-Yuletide drug control strategies.

He also said that two vehicles were impounded in the operation, describing both seizures as impressive efforts towards ridding the state of illicit drugs during the festive season.

He stated, “The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Edo State Command has successfully intercepted large consignments of skunk cannabis in two separate operations, resulting in the seizure of over 763 kilogrammes of the illicit substance and the arrest of two suspected traffickers.

“Both seizures are impressive efforts towards ridding the state of illicit drugs during the end-of-the-year festive season.

“The agency remains resolute in its commitment to curbing the production, trafficking, and distribution of illicit drugs in the state.

“These arrests and seizures demonstrate our unwavering dedication to eradicating drug-related crimes that threaten the safety and well-being of our communities, especially as we are approaching the end of the year festive season,” he said.

According to Ofoyeju, the first operation was conducted on December 2, 2025, when officers intercepted two Honda Accord vehicles at Agho Forest in the Akoko Edo Local Government Area.

He noted that the vehicles were found to be transporting compressed dried weeds suspected to be skunk cannabis.

He said the first vehicle with registration number ABC-678kk, contained 341 compressed packages weighing 217.5 kilogrammes, adding that the driver, Dada Adedara Babawibi, aged 56, was apprehended at the scene.
