The Katsina State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has reaffirmed its commitment to combating drug abuse and trafficking, assuring residents of the State that the agency remains vigilant in its anti-narcotics efforts.
NDLEA Katsina Commander, Samaila Danmalam, disclosed the Command’s achievements during its end-of-year press conference on Tuesday, which also coincided with the decoration of 61 officers promoted to various ranks.
Highlighting the successes of 2025, Danmalam emphasized that the fight against drug-related crimes requires collective action and stronger collaboration with the public. He stressed that through information sharing, advocacy, and community policing, drug offenses can be reduced and peace maintained across Katsina.
According to the Commander, intelligence-led raids and patrol operations throughout the year led to the arrest of 1,018 suspects—992 males and 26 females—linked to various drug offenses. Significant drug seizures were also recorded, including 1,667.747 kg of cannabis, 12.348 kg of codeine, and 793.66 kg of psychotropic substances, bringing the total to 2,473.755 kg confiscated.
Danmalam also highlighted the success of the “War Against Drug Abuse (WADA)” initiative, led by Brig. Gen. Muhammed Buba Marwa (Rtd), noting that 203 sensitization programs reached 75,135 beneficiaries, while 451 clients were counseled and 58 admitted for rehabilitation.
On prosecutions, the NDLEA secured the arraignment of 86 suspects and the conviction of 87 others in Katsina State last year.
Despite these achievements, Danmalam acknowledged ongoing logistical challenges, including limited operational vehicles, inadequate office infrastructure, and insufficient accommodation for officers across the state.
He called on stakeholders, government agencies, and philanthropists to support the Command in overcoming these challenges, reiterating that continued cooperation is crucial to sustaining progress in the fight against drug abuse and trafficking in Katsina.
