Ndidi’s £9m Relegation Clause Activated Following Leicester City Drop

It has been revealed that Wilfred Ndidi has a £9 million relegation release clause in his Leicester City contract, which was activated following the club’s demotion to the Sky Bet Championship two weeks ago.

The Nigerian midfielder signed a new three-year deal with the Foxes last summer, despite having the option to leave on a free transfer. His decision to stay came amid interest from other clubs, including a rejected bid from Ligue 1 side AS Monaco during the January transfer window.

According to the BBC, the clause came into effect after Leicester suffered a 1-0 defeat to newly crowned Premier League champions Liverpool, a result that sealed their relegation.

Ndidi, 28, has made 27 appearances across all competitions this season under manager Ruud van Nistelrooy. The Nigeria international initially joined Leicester City in 2017 from Belgian side KRC Genk and has since become a key figure in the squad.

With the release clause now active, the defensive midfielder could be on the move this summer as potential suitors consider a cut-price deal.
