Naira Abuse: TikTok Stars TobiNation and TDollar Sentenced to Prison

TikTok stars Tobilola Olamide, popularly known as TobiNation, and Babatunde Peter Olaitan, also known as TDollar, have been convicted and sentenced for naira abuse by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The sentencing took place on Monday, May 6, 2025, before Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos.

The EFCC arrested the two content creators after a video went viral showing them spraying and stepping on naira notes during a social event. Both individuals were charged with a single count each of tampering with the naira, in violation of Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act, 2007. They pleaded guilty to the charges.

Justice Aneke sentenced each of them to six months in prison, with an option of a ₦200,000 fine.

Their conviction is part of the EFCC’s broader crackdown on currency abuse, which has seen a wave of arrests and prosecutions involving public figures. Recently, the commission secured a prison sentence against controversial figure Bobrisky for a similar offense.

Actors Iyabo Ojo and AY Makun were also questioned by the EFCC after videos showed them spraying money at separate events. Although they were later released, both celebrities took to social media to caution Nigerians against spraying money at events to avoid falling foul of the law.
