The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a public alert regarding the recall of certain multivitamin and iron supplements in the United States.
In a statement shared via its official Twitter handle, NAFDAC identified the affected brand as CINCINNATI (WKRC). The supplements were reportedly sold across the U.S., including through major retailers like Walmart and Amazon.
The recall was triggered by a “risk of serious injury or death” due to improper packaging, particularly posing a danger to young children. According to a report from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, over 60,000 units are affected.
The recalled products include:
• Daily Prenatal Multi
• Ultamins Women’s Multivitamin
• Ultamins Women’s 50+ Multivitamin
It was discovered that these products do not have child-resistant packaging, increasing the risk of accidental poisoning if accessed by children. NAFDAC warned that in severe cases, symptoms may escalate quickly and become life-threatening.
To address the issue, NAFDAC has directed all zonal directors and state coordinators to actively monitor and remove the affected products from circulation in Nigeria.
The agency also urged distributors, retailers, healthcare providers, and caregivers to exercise caution and ensure the recalled supplements are not used or sold.
Consumers are advised to report any suspected cases of substandard or falsified products to the nearest NAFDAC office.
