NAF Airstrikes Kill 20 Terrorists, Destroy 21 Motorcycles in Zamfara

Air raids conducted in Maru LGA target terrorists planning large-scale attacks; two vigilantes killed during crossfire.

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has confirmed the killing of over 20 terrorists and the destruction of 21 motorcycles in a targeted air operation conducted in Zamfara State.

The strikes took place on May 31 in Mai-Galma, located in Maru Local Government Area, and were aimed at thwarting an imminent large-scale attack on vulnerable communities in the region.

According to NAF spokesperson, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, intelligence reports had revealed that a significant number of armed terrorists were mobilizing for an assault on surrounding settlements.

“The terrorists had already killed farmers and abducted several civilians, including women and children,” the statement said.

Precision Strike Under Operation FANSAN YAMMA
The air raid was executed under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, with aircraft deployed on an armed reconnaissance and possible rescue mission.

“On arrival, over 30 motorcycles carrying armed terrorists were spotted heading into a forest. The terrorists opened fire on sighting the aircraft, prompting a precision strike that neutralized dozens and destroyed their motorcycles,” the statement added.

Following the airstrike, ground troops moved in to assess the aftermath and confirmed the neutralization of over 20 terrorists and the destruction of key logistics assets.

Casualties and Ongoing Efforts
Unfortunately, two local vigilantes were killed, and two others injured during the crossfire that ensued.

NAF expressed condolences to the families of the deceased vigilantes and reiterated its commitment to protecting civilian lives during operations.

“NAF remains committed to minimizing civilian harm and will continue to take all necessary precautions in its operations,” the statement emphasized.
