The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has announced the successful execution of precision airstrikes on major Boko Haram enclaves in Borno State, resulting in the neutralisation of several terrorists and the destruction of key logistics infrastructure.
According to a statement released on Saturday by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the operations were carried out under Operation HADIN KAI between June 5 and 6, targeting insurgent hideouts in Tumbumma Baba and Chiralia, located in the Southern Tumbuns region.
The airstrikes, launched based on credible intelligence, specifically targeted structures reportedly used by the insurgents for storage and operational coordination.
“In a series of precision airstrikes conducted on 5 and 6 June 2025, the Nigerian Air Force, under Operation HADIN KAI, decimated key Boko Haram hideouts at Tumbumma Baba and Chiralia in the Southern Tumbuns, Borno State,” the statement read.
Air Commodore Gabkwet confirmed that the targeted strikes were aimed at disrupting planned terrorist attacks during the Eid-el-Kabir festivities and denying the insurgents any tactical advantage.
“Acting on credible intelligence, NAF aircraft targeted terrorist structures used for storage and coordination, delivering direct hits and crippling planned attacks aimed at disrupting Eid celebrations,” he said.
Post-strike assessments confirmed the neutralisation of several terrorists and the destruction of critical logistics hubs used by the extremist group. Gabkwet noted that the pre-emptive strike is part of ongoing efforts to degrade terrorist capabilities and safeguard civilian populations in the region.
“This pre-emptive action underscores the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to safeguarding civilian lives and supporting national security objectives,” he added.
The operation comes as part of a broader military strategy to ensure a peaceful and secure environment during the religious holidays and beyond, particularly in insurgency-prone areas of the North-East.
