“My Acting Debut Deepened My Respect for Actors” – Ayra Starr

Grammy-nominated Nigerian singer Ayra Starr is embracing a new creative chapter with her acting debut in the highly anticipated American fantasy film, Children of Blood and Bone.
In a recent interview with CBS, the Afro-pop star opened up about her experience on set, revealing how the demands of acting pushed her out of her comfort zone and deepened her admiration for professional actors.
“This is my first movie ever,” Starr shared. “I’m used to being a singer, being the diva on set, but film is so different—it’s not about you. You have to be on set on time, no excuses. It taught me discipline, how to work with military precision. I’ve come to respect actors so much more—their stamina is incredible.”
The Rush hitmaker, known for her vibrant personality and dynamic stage presence, admitted that while she has always loved acting, it was something she had been hesitant to pursue.
“I’ve always wanted to act, but I was shy about it. This was the first time I’ve ever been in front of the camera without singing, and it was amazing. I learned so much—not just from the legends, but from everyone on set.”
Children of Blood and Bone is adapted from the bestselling novel by Nigerian-American author Tomi Adeyemi. Directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, the film boasts an all-star cast including Damson Idris, Tosin Cole, Idris Elba, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Cynthia Erivo, Viola Davis, and Thuso Mbedu.
The film is set for release by Paramount Pictures on January 15, 2027.
