Mr. P Applauds OdumoduBlvck for Reviving Campus Tours: “He’s Taking It Back to the Roots”

Veteran Nigerian artist Mr. P of P-Square has praised rapper OdumoduBlvck for his recently concluded university tour, calling it a much-needed return to the grassroots of Nigerian music culture.
Speaking during an interview on Naija FM, Mr. P commended OdumoduBlvck for the initiative, which saw the fast-rising star perform at eight universities across different states, as part of The Greatest School Tour.
“He’s going back to the basics,” Mr. P remarked. “Back in the day, we used to promote our music through campus tours. That’s how we connected with fans directly — on their turf, in their energy.”
The former P-Square frontman reflected on how university tours once played a major role in shaping Nigeria’s music industry, serving as a vital platform for artist development and fan engagement. He noted that with Afrobeats going global, local touring has sadly fallen by the wayside — overshadowed by international opportunities and hampered by security, economic, and logistical hurdles.
“It’s something we’ve lost over the years,” Mr. P added. “But it’s good to see young artists like OdumoduBlvck and Llona taking the bold step to reconnect with Nigerian fans right here at home.”
He emphasized that local tours — once heavily supported by multinational brands — helped solidify careers and build loyal fanbases, and expressed hope that more artists would follow suit.
Beyond the music, Mr. P also touched on personal matters, including the past rift within P-Square involving his twin brother Paul Okoye and their elder brother and former manager Jude Okoye. He briefly addressed the tension, including his decision to petition the EFCC over financial discrepancies.
Speaking on conflict within the music industry, Mr. P suggested that fans often escalate tensions by fueling rivalries, referencing the ongoing narrative around Wizkid and Davido.
“Sometimes it’s not even that deep between the artists. It’s the fans who blow things out of proportion, turning friendly competition into full-blown feuds.”
With his remarks, Mr. P not only celebrated OdumoduBlvck’s efforts but also underscored the need for a stronger local connection in the industry — both on stage and off. For him, campus tours aren’t just a trip down memory lane; they’re a blueprint for building sustainable careers and lasting bonds with homegrown audiences.
