The Niger State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs has addressed the confusion surrounding a recent statement by the state’s Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, Ahmed Baba Suleiman, regarding the distribution of 6,000 trailers of rice to flood victims in Mokwa.
In a press release, the ministry clarified that the commissioner intended to convey that 6,000 bags of rice, not trailers, were allocated for relief efforts. The misstatement occurred during a press briefing and was attributed to a slip of the tongue.
The clarification comes amid public scrutiny and skepticism about the feasibility of distributing such a vast quantity of rice via 6,000 trailers. Logistical experts had pointed out the improbability of such a claim, prompting the ministry to set the record straight.
The ministry emphasized its commitment to transparency and effective communication, assuring the public that all relief materials are being distributed efficiently to those affected by the recent floods in Mokwa.
This incident underscores the importance of clear and accurate communication from public officials, especially during times of crisis when misinformation can exacerbate public anxiety.
