Minister of Information Rejects 2027 Election Rumours, Suspends Aide

Following the circulation of a controversial article speculating on the 2027 governorship race in Niger State, Minister Mohammed Idris has distanced himself from any political involvement.

In a statement released on Wednesday in Abuja, the minister’s Special Assistant on Media, Rabiu Ibrahim, described the article titled “Malagi 2027” as unauthorised and inconsistent with the minister’s official priorities. Ibrahim stressed that Minister Idris neither approved nor directed the publication and has no intention of engaging in political speculation that could distract from his duties.

“The contents of the article are completely disowned.

“Minister Idris remains fully committed to leading the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation and will not allow unverified political speculation to interfere with his responsibilities”, Ibrahim said.

An investigation has been launched into the circumstances surrounding the publication, and the aide involved, Sa’idu Enagi, has been suspended with immediate effect.

“Any attempt to draw the Minister into 2027 political debates runs counter to the shared goal of effective governance and the welfare of Niger State”, Ibrahim added.

The statement also emphasized that Minister Idris maintains a cordial and constructive working relationship with Niger State Governor Umaru Bago, noting that their collaboration is focused on governance and development rather than political contests.
