Military Sues for Peace Among Feuding Communities in Taraba

In a bid to foster peace and prevent further communal violence in parts of Karim Lamido, Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, Commander of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), has held a series of strategic meetings with key stakeholders from affected communities.

The engagement, as detailed in a press statement by Captain Olubodunde Oni, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations at the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, involved representatives from the Bandawa, Munga, and Fulani communities in Karim Lamido LGA. This was in response to a recent violent clash between farmers and herders that resulted in fatalities, displacement, and forced many families to seek refuge at an IDP camp in Lau LGA.

The closed-door discussions produced several resolutions, including the preparation of a formal peace accord that is expected to be signed by all involved parties next week. Additionally, the Brigade Commander visited the Ardo-Kola Local Government Secretariat for another round of talks with Hon. Zakari Ismail, the Local Government Chairman, as well as community elders, opinion leaders, and youth representatives.

The focus of these meetings was to strengthen community relations, improve early warning systems, and enhance cooperation with security agencies to address insecurity in the region.

The 6 Brigade reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety of all law-abiding citizens, stating it will continue to employ both kinetic and non-kinetic strategies to maintain peace and stability throughout Taraba State.
