Benue State Governor urges continued collaboration with workers, highlights wage increases and reforms as part of pro-labour achievements.

Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has called on workers in the state to rally behind his re-election bid in 2027, assuring them of continued improvements in their welfare and working conditions.

Speaking during the 2025 May Day celebration at IBB Square in Makurdi, Governor Alia praised the dedication of the state’s workforce, describing them as key drivers of the administration’s successes. He said, “I am a partner and comrade with you to drive the workforce. The party is not over—we are just getting started.”

He revealed that his government had approved a ₦75,000 minimum wage and committed to paying one month’s arrears in the current month. He also noted that five months of unpaid salaries had been cleared, including those owed to political appointees.

According to the governor, the state had significantly reduced the backlog of gratuities and renovated the State Secretariat to provide a more conducive working environment. Alia acknowledged the economic hardship caused by inflation but assured that his administration would introduce cushioning measures to ease the burden on workers.

“We will continue to work hard to better the lot of workers and the masses,” he stated. He also emphasized that prompt salary payment, promotion of workers, training and retraining, and the automation of public service systems would remain top priorities.

Governor Alia concluded by urging workers to trust his leadership and renew their mandate in 2027 to ensure the continuity of reforms that prioritize their welfare.
