Martin Keown Backs Arsenal’s Pursuit of Sporting CP Striker Viktor Gyokeres

Arsenal legend Martin Keown has praised the club’s pursuit of Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres, suggesting that the signing could resolve the Gunners’ longstanding goal-scoring issues.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Keown described Gyokeres as an ideal candidate to lead Arsenal’s attack and exactly the type of player that manager Mikel Arteta needs to bolster the squad.
The former defender highlighted Arsenal’s urgent need for a reliable striker, a factor many fans believe has contributed to the club falling short in their recent Premier League title bids despite coming close over the past two to three seasons.
“This guy [Gyokeres], you know, is rock solid. You can play the ball into him, he holds it up well, he has pace, power, and I think he’s quite emphatic in front of goal,” Keown said.
He added that a striker like Gyokeres is precisely what Arteta’s team currently lacks to compete at the highest level.
Reports indicate that Arsenal have already reached personal terms with the Sporting CP forward, despite initial reluctance from the Portuguese club to let him go.
Renowned football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported yesterday that Gyokeres is willing to take a pay cut in order to facilitate the move to Arsenal, signaling his strong desire to join the Premier League side.
