Malami Backs Emerging Opposition Coalition, Says Unity Will Defeat Sabotage Ahead of 2027

Former AGF expresses confidence in ADC-led alliance, urges discipline amid rising political ambitions

Former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has expressed optimism over the strength and resilience of Nigeria’s emerging opposition coalition as it prepares to challenge the ruling party in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking in a recent interview, Malami acknowledged that political coalitions are often tested by internal conflicts, sabotage, and personal ambitions. However, he stressed that the current opposition alliance is aware of these challenges and determined to overcome them.

“In any political arrangement, you cannot rule out infiltration, sabotage, or personal ambitions,” he said. “But we are resolved to continue, and we are committed to overcoming whatever challenges arise.”

Malami recently joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) after officially leaving the All Progressives Congress (APC), signaling his full alignment with the coalition of opposition forces aiming to break the ruling party’s hold on power.

Describing political ambition as a natural part of democratic engagement, the former minister emphasized the importance of internal discipline and collective focus.

“Political engagement includes ambitions, but managing those ambitions is what makes the difference,” Malami stated.

The ADC and other opposition blocs have been in talks to form a united front ahead of the 2027 polls, with many high-profile politicians, including Malami, positioning themselves as key drivers of the movement.

As political realignments intensify, analysts say the coalition’s ability to maintain cohesion could play a critical role in reshaping Nigeria’s electoral landscape in the coming years.
