Maduro Halts Gas Deal With Trinidad and Tobago Over U.S. Warship Visit

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has announced the suspension of an energy agreement with Trinidad and Tobago, following the island nation’s decision to host a visiting US warship.

In a televised address late Monday, Maduro declared the “immediate suspension” of the bilateral gas accord, accusing Trinidad and Tobago’s Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar of aligning her country with Washington’s interests.

“Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has turned Trinidad and Tobago into an aircraft carrier of the American empire against Venezuela,” Maduro said.

The move marks a sharp escalation in regional tensions, underscoring the fragile diplomatic ties between Caracas and its Caribbean neighbors as Venezuela continues to push back against what it calls US military encirclement and interference.
