Liverpool to Honor Diogo Jota and Brother with Tributes in Preseason Match

Liverpool have announced a series of heartfelt tributes to honor Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva as the Reds return to action on Sunday against Preston. This will be Liverpool’s first match since the tragic death of the Portuguese international.
Jota and Silva lost their lives in a car crash in northern Spain on July 3. As a result, Liverpool delayed their return to pre-season training until Tuesday.
Despite the tragedy, the scheduled pre-season friendly against English Championship side Preston will proceed as planned, with kickoff set for 1400 GMT.
Before the match begins, Liverpool’s anthem “You’ll Never Walk Alone” will be performed. Preston will also lay a wreath in front of the away supporters. A minute of silence will be observed, and digital tributes will be shown on the stadium’s big screen and pitchside advertising boards. Additionally, players from both teams will wear black armbands in memory of Jota and Silva.
Diogo Jota had recently married his long-term partner, Rute Cardoso, just 11 days prior to the accident. He and his brother died when the Lamborghini they were traveling in veered off the road and caught fire.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot, alongside several first-team players led by captain Virgil van Dijk, attended Jota’s funeral last Saturday.
