Liverpool Mourns Passing of Former Defender Joey Jones at 70

Liverpool Football Club has mourned the passing of former player Joey Jones, who died at the age of 70.

In an official statement published on Tuesday, the club expressed deep sadness over the death of the former left-back.

“The thoughts of everyone at LFC are with Joey’s family and friends at this sad time,” the statement read in part.

Jones enjoyed a successful spell at Anfield during the late 1970s, making 100 appearances for the Reds. He was part of the squad that won the domestic league title, the UEFA Cup, and the prestigious European Cup.

On the international stage, the Welshman earned over 70 caps for the Wales national team, establishing himself as a key figure for both club and country.

His death comes just weeks after the tragic passing of another Liverpool player, Diogo Jota, who died in a car accident in Spain.
