Lewandowski Double and Yamal’s Brilliance Propel Barcelona to 4-0 Rout of Dortmund in UCL

Under Hansi Flick, Barça extended their unbeaten streak to 23 games in all competitions. The five-time European champions seized early control at home, opening the scoring through in-form winger Raphinha. Lewandowski then added a clinical brace, reaching the 40-goal milestone for the season.

Robert Lewandowski scored twice as a ruthless Barcelona crushed Borussia Dortmund 4-0 in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Wednesday, taking a major step toward their first semi-final appearance since 2019.

Under Hansi Flick, Barça extended their unbeaten streak to 23 games in all competitions. The five-time European champions seized early control at home, opening the scoring through in-form winger Raphinha. Lewandowski then added a clinical brace, reaching the 40-goal milestone for the season.

Teen sensation Lamine Yamal tormented Dortmund’s backline all night and capped his display with a well-taken fourth, as the visitors crumbled under relentless pressure.

The Catalans, who last lifted the Champions League trophy in 2015, now have one foot in the final four, where they would meet either Inter Milan or Bayern Munich—provided they finish the job in Germany next Tuesday.

Flick stuck with his regular lineup, making just one tweak: opting for Fermin Lopez ahead of Gavi in attacking midfield to support the dynamic front three.

Barcelona flew out of the blocks, forcing early saves from Dortmund keeper Gregor Kobel. Yamal, only 17, repeatedly sliced through the defense, creating chances and drawing fouls with his direct play.

The breakthrough came after Jules Kounde was hauled down by Karim Adeyemi, gifting Barça a dangerous free-kick. Lopez whipped it to the far post where Inigo Martinez headed it back across goal. Young defender Pau Cubarsi redirected the ball goalward, and Raphinha ensured it crossed the line for his 12th goal of the competition—though a brief VAR check was needed to confirm he was onside.

Yamal and Raphinha continued to press for a second, but it was Dortmund who had the next big chance. Serhou Guirassy, with 10 goals in the tournament, wasted a golden opportunity when played in clean through, failing to hit the target under pressure from Wojciech Szczesny.

Guirassy came close again before halftime but could only find the side-netting, and Dortmund’s profligacy proved costly. Just three minutes into the second half, Yamal floated a cross to Raphinha, whose header found Lewandowski at the back post. The Polish striker nodded home from close range, making it 2-0.

Barcelona kept pushing, and Lopez hit the post before firing just over. But it was Lewandowski again who made it 3-0 in the 66th minute, smashing in a near-post finish after being teed up by Lopez. It marked his 29th goal in 28 games against his former club.

Yamal then got the goal his dazzling performance deserved, racing through on goal after a pass from Raphinha and calmly slotting past Kobel to seal the rout. He asked to be subbed off late in the game but left the pitch smiling to a standing ovation.

With a potential quadruple still in sight, Flick’s Barcelona look like serious contenders and in this form, they’ll take some stopping.
