LASTMA Finds No Evidence of Misconduct in Viral Harassment Allegation
Traffic agency says internal probe yields no proof to support claim of officer abuse near Iponri, urges public to provide verifiable reports.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) says it has found no evidence to substantiate recent social media allegations that its officers harassed a citizen in the Iponri area of Surulere.
The claim, which surfaced on X (formerly Twitter) via user Chiemelie Kyrian Offor, alleged that unidentified LASTMA personnel wrongfully arrested and harassed him on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, before taking him to an office purportedly located near “Faithview Hospital.”
In a statement issued on Thursday, LASTMA said it immediately launched a full internal investigation after the post gained public attention. The agency confirmed that it debriefed officers, reviewed duty logs, and examined operations along the Iponri corridor on the date in question.
“No officer account or operational report corresponded with the incident described,” the statement read.
Efforts to contact Mr. Offor for further information, such as vehicle registration details, identities or descriptions of the officers involved, or location specifics, have been unsuccessful, according to LASTMA.
Additionally, physical verification of the area revealed that no facility named ‘Faithview Hospital’ exists within the Surulere axis, weakening the credibility of the claim further.
While the agency concluded that there was currently no verifiable evidence to support the allegation, it stressed its continued commitment to accountability and citizen engagement.
“LASTMA will continue to uphold the highest standards of integrity in its operations and will not hesitate to investigate any credible reports brought to its attention,” said Adebayo Taofiq, Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment.
The agency urged Lagos residents to ensure that any future complaints are accompanied by verifiable details to enable prompt and thorough investigation.
