Lagos State Begins Nighttime Repairs on Ozumba Mbadiwe Road to Ease Traffic Impact

Seven-day roadworks scheduled to upgrade key artery connecting Lagos Island to Lekki and Epe.

The Lagos State Government has officially kicked off repair works on the heavily trafficked Ozumba Mbadiwe Road, a vital route linking Lagos Island to Lekki and Epe.

The maintenance project is set to run for seven nights, from Monday, September 15, through Sunday, September 21, 2025, with work taking place during off-peak hours from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. to minimize disruption to commuters.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Transportation, the repairs will cover the entire stretch of the road, starting at Bony Camp junction and extending to Sandfill junction, where it connects to the Lekki-Epe Expressway.

Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, assured the public that scheduling the works at night was a strategic move to ease traffic congestion during the day. He appealed for motorists’ patience and cooperation as the repairs progress.

Ozumba Mbadiwe Road serves as a crucial artery for motorists traveling from Lagos Island (CMS) to popular destinations including Lekki Phase 1, Ajah, Lakowe, Ibeji Lekki, and Epe.

This corridor is also known as Lagos’ Silicon Valley, home to prominent high-rise buildings and commercial hubs such as The Wings, The Waves, Civic Towers, 1004 Estate, and Black Diamond Hotel. Several construction projects are also ongoing in the area, highlighting its importance as a business district.
