Lagos Sets 10-Day Measles-Rubella Vaccine Drive for Children Across the State

Over 10 million children in Lagos State are set to benefit from a 10-day measles-rubella vaccination campaign kicking off January 27.

The Lagos State Government said the campaign will target children aged nine months to 14 years, covering every part of the state, including hard-to-reach and riverine communities. The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to reduce vaccine-preventable diseases and improve child health outcomes across Lagos.

Coordinator of the Lagos State Immunisation Programme, Akinu Adola, said preparations have been ongoing for months. He explained that community mapping has been completed, and nearly 5,000 trained health workers will be deployed to ensure full coverage.

Adola also emphasized the role of traditional leaders and local stakeholders in boosting public confidence in the vaccine. While acknowledging some pockets of resistance, he stressed that continuous engagement and education remain key.

“The goal is not just these 10 days. We will continue to engage communities, show evidence that vaccines work, and help parents make informed decisions for their children”, Adola said.

The campaign highlights Lagos State’s commitment to strengthening public health infrastructure and protecting children from measles, rubella, and other preventable diseases.
